I'm wondering what ram will be best for my computer right now that's on the market.

evga 780i mobo
q6600 cpu OC to 3.04, (337.5 fsb)
2x gtx 280 1gb
2x raptor hdd raid 0
vista ultimate64

right now I have 4x2gb (8gb) of pc6400 xms2 which is running at 400mhz 5-5-5-18 @ 1.8v

I'm thinking my computer have a bottle neck somewhere and it seems like it's either the ram or cpu so i'm upgrading the ram, what would be the best ram I could buy for my system right now?

BTW, I had my cpu running at 3.4ghz (378 fsb) with air cooling before, but I tried to change to a diff air cooling and I couldn't get my cpu back up pass 338 fsb without it crashing, even after I changed it back to the original cooling it still wouldn't go back up, no idea why but 3.04 now is the highest I can go and I've tried 3 diff after market copper air coolers. I had it at 3.4ghz for atlease 3 months too and it was stable...I was gaming around 5-10 hours a day without any problems.

well 1 thing is that my load times are taking very long when i'm gaming, also there's alot of memory build up and I tend to start lagging after i've been playing an online game for over an hour, I have another system that have none of the above problem and is actually not as good a computer, here is my ohter computer's spec.

evga 680i mobo
core 2 duo e8500cpu
xfx 8800 ultra 768mb
4x 1gb ocz flex xlc ram 1150mhz 5-5-5-15
1x raptor 150gb
1x wd 500gb
winxp pro

Now when I play age of conan on these systems, they both have about the same performance, but after 1-2hours of play, my new system will start to lag and slow down on zoning, that's why i'm thinking it might be because of the cheaper memory i'm using even tho it's 8gb compare to the 3gb detectable by my older system.

Your memory is basically being underclocked right now. If you were OC'ing your Q6600 to 3.6 GHz (400 MHz X 9), your memory would be running 1:1.

I do not know if AoC supports multiple cores. Most current games do not. That is why a fast C2D will beat a medium speed C2Q.

If your Q6600 has a late model G0 core stepping (especially with a good VID), you can certainly get more speed from it. I was running a Q6600 at 3.6 GHz until very recently (yesterday) when I replaced it with a Q9550.

Your slowdown is more likely due to Vista. I have no idea how well Vista manages memory.

----------
Overclocking since 1978 - Z80 (TRS-80) from 1.77 MHz to 2.01 MHz

When you populate all 4 DIMM slots,
you put more stress on the Northbridge
and you also limit O/C potential with that setup.

zipzoom- I'm not overclocking the ram, only upíng the fsb, but it's stuck at 1350 which is the highest I can go, but before I touched my fan after the first time I installed the aftermarket part (meaning second time I removed the fan) I had the fsb at 1480, no idea why after I changed out the fan but even putting back on the same fan I couldn't get the fsb back up without crashing, oh I never changed the voltage on my cpu either and got it to go at almost 3.4ghz on air cooling for afew months.
