Recently I have scrapped up enough funds to aquire a new card. but when i goto the Fry's and microcenter here in Dallas, there are no GTX 295's to be found. Fry's also shows the BFG GTX 295 as having been clearanced as a discontinued item. Newegg had 4 models, but as of this morning now only shows 2 brands left.

Did I miss something or are they already stopping production on these cards for some reason?

I want to buy but not if there's a problem with these cards.

Really weird... I checked a few sites I order off of and except for one of the overpriced OC'd versions seems they are all out of stock.

all i can say is you would be better off with the 4870x2

if you have the money the 295 GTX over the 4870 X2 is a better choice since it is noticeably stronger in benchmarks. Though kill an exaggeration. The cards are pretty much the same, witht he 295 GTX around 10-15% faster, which doesn't justify the extra 100$. But if you can find this card for 500$ I'd say its pretty good:)

????

Did a 4870X2 bend you over at some point ?

I find (and most people I talk to) that the 4870X2 is an excellent card that can easily conquer any game today with ease. I have found this to be accurate with my own X2.

I'd have to agree, I mean just because the 295 GTX is a stronger card, doesn't mean the 4870 X2 is useless at all. The 100$ less price tag makes it the new GX2 of this generation...remember when the GX2 went to half the price, and every1 went crazy lookign for 1:P

I regret buying the 4870 x2 when it was expensive though. I wish I would've waited, but I was excited to see how it performed using my own tests:) Now I kinda wish I either waited or went with 2 4870s (I dunno why 2 4870s 1 Gigs perform better than 1 4870 X2:S).

318$ FTW :bounce:

Yeah pretty much... literally the worst experience to date with a computer component and I still can't figure out why it doesn't want to work. I WISH it had worked like I know it's supposed to but again, in practice I was better off with my 4870 because it works.

It was definitely driver related (I tried several cards) but for the life of me I can't figure out why it didn't want to work. Random system lockups, forced me to try new bios on my mobo, undo all overclocks, switch ram, try different drivers etc. Whatever it was, something in my system doesn't agree with the 4870x2.

I personally prefer a product that costs slightly more, performs slightly slower, but works without headache.

Maybe I should give it another shot when I switch to i7? Too bad it's left a sour taste in my mouth :(

my 8800GTX runs all games with ease, with the exception of Crysis you numbnuts..... you had no reason to respond to the OP like that just because of your ATI Fanboyism.....personally wont be upgraded my GFX until the next generation of cards come out after the 295/4870 series.

I gotta agree with Flakes... my OC'd 880GTX still mows through games with ease.

I've been considering getting a new GFX card too, but for the life of me, I can't justify buying a new one when this one still rocks. It'd be a new toy to play with, but in the end, a waste of money right now.

If Alan Wake ever comes out soon and I find my card chugs on it, I may have to rethink my decision to wait. :)

But seriously... when's the last time a video card has had the longevity as the 8800GTX? What's it been now, 3 yrs and still great?

Hey, there is no 'fanboism' here. I have owned a 7800GT, 8800GTX (fantastic card ) and the 9800GX2 the day that it came out. My favorite of the three being the GX2, a true gem for it's time, and the first successful multi-gpu card in my opinion. I also prefer Nvidia's drivers over ATI's.
What YOU do with YOUR system/ upgrades is YOUR business, and frankly I don't care. I feel that there was sufficent reason to respond to the poster as I did, he was clearly trying to bash the 4870X2 with absolutely no information or reason to back it up, THAT could be considered fanboism. However, he then posted and stated his valid reasons for his dislike of the X2.

Some of us can be adults on this forum, attempt to reach that level yourself.

Not to mention, your 8800GTX might run all our new games at 1280, but try some of the newer titles at 1920 and prepare to be disappointed.

if an 8800 GT, can do it, the 8800 GTX can do it because of the extra ram. I mean it won't max out all games, but it can do the majority:) left 4 dead, cod 5 blah blah blah.

The GX2 was a good card, but after summer, support stopped, and ppl were having driver problems.

I agree with annisman, you don' t need to bash the 4870 X2, its only 10-15% faster, but it can be found open box for 316$ which is no competition.

The 4870 X2, is the better choice for the money:) Only thing I wished was waiting for it, and more driver support, other than that it owns:)

I didn't find your reply to be offensive or uncalled for.

I don't really dislike the 4870x2... actually I WISH I could have made it work... It's a great card in theory, but in practice it just wasn't working for me.

When I rebuild my PC I might try buying another pair first, if they don't work I can always return them for something from Nvidia.
