Pretty simple question, have been putting together a new computer and I'm planning on the i7 920, paired with the GTX 285 but there are so many brands for a video card that I'm getting lost. Right now I am in a toss up between:
Given that you have shortlisted probably the best around anyway I`d go for the EVGA, their support is supposed to be superb and it`s a little less expensive. I doubt you`ll see and real gains from the higher clocked XFX card.
agreed, go with evga, it comes with 1 game instead of 2, so basically for the other 1 your paying 45$ for a little more overclock and a game
Also I'd rather have the step up program than the cooler 1, since 3 months from now, God knows what might come out that might catch your eye, maybe a 285.5 GTX, with 1 mhz extra overclock 54.5 nm die shrink and .5 degrees less heat, featuring DX 10.00001

ive found xfx and evga support to be the best and about the same as i own gpu's from each vendor currently (evga gtx 260-216 and xfx hd4850) xfx has double lifetime warranty and the xxx versions of the cards are factory oc and do give good boost over stock cards. think of xxx gpu's as the equivalent of evga's super super clocked or ssc. the xfx black edition cards match evga ftw edition cards
Mmm, I would go for the EVGA as well, not sure the +22MHz core clock and +16MHz memory clock is worth ~50$. Hoever, if you are going to buy Farcry, might as well get the XFX (the game is worth the price difference, so you would get some free extra OC).
And even if I do like EVGA, I don't think their step-up program has much "worth" money wise unless you know something is coming up, but just can't wait to buy your PC and are ready to lose money over the upgrade. Remember that for the step-up you have to:
Be willing to part with your GFX card during the exchange period
Pay the difference between the price you paid and the price they have on THEIR site (sometimes overpriced compared to NewEgg)
Be willing to upgrade to a "basic" card (cannot step-up to SSC and the like)
Pay for both way shipping
