Does dell 8400 use sataor ide connection for dvd burner

Hello,
I need to purchase newdvd r/rw drive. I just want to make sure if it is a sata or ide drive. The connector is 40 pin. The specs seem to state that iit is a sata drive. The drive playd cd|dvds but when I try to burn(using roxio 10) it doesn't recognize drive. What could the problem be?

A 40-pin cable is IDE, not SATA. Is your CD/DVD drive a burner or read only drive?

It's an IDE drive, as listed here. It's a DVD+RW.

Thanks for the help. I was just confused because when I looked the burners up in the manual it said they were sata. I had 1 of each a read only and a burner.
