I'm more than happy with my 8800GT, it runs everything like a breeze and I'm not really complaining... I'm just wondering if I'm missing something because, according to Tom's Hardware GPU charts, my overclocked 8800gt is scoring higher than 2 GTX 280 in SLI? That can't be right?

OC info:

8800GT @ Core - 700mhz / Mem - 2060mhz / Shaders - 1700mhz -

CPU is @ stock speeds as of now - haven't really felt the need to OC it yet ;)

Weird, but then again I got around the same score with the 8800 GTS, it could just be the charts.

By the way, I noticed your multiplier is set to 6, making the E8400 clocked at a stellar 2 Ghz. You might want to fix that :)

lol, don't worry man, that's just the CPU sitting @ idle... when I open any application/game, the CPU kicks back to 3ghz :)

well 8800gt did 11K+ there, overclocking it may have added up the extra 2 thousands.
But it's 06 version of 3d mark. Don't see much advantage having SLI. (Difference between single and SLI SGT280 is just 1k.) Maybe 06 doesn't have a good SLI suppport yet, IMO.
Try beating GTX280 in Vantage. ;)

Yeah, my 8800GT @ stock does about 11.5k in 3Dmark 06.

Still, despite being 3Dmark 2006 we're talking about here, the GTX 280 should be way faster... I was like "WTF" when I saw that my 8800gt outperformed a single 280 and matched 2 of them in SLI :o

Which is wierd... because 3DM06 supports SLI/CF, right?

well i think 06 dont have like the best scaling for SLI/CF or something. Difference between single and SLI SGT280 is just 1k.

You are right about that.

But when a single GTX 280 is used, scaling gets out of the picture... and my OC'd 8800GT outperforms a single GTX 280. A single GTX 280 should score around 15/16k right?

How accurate are these charts?

Not sure man, Haven't used benchmarking apps before, no experience so all below are solely IMOs, lol.
Newer drivers and that overclocking may have helped you achieve a higher score.
And if you compare 8800GT, GTS, GTX, Ultra, 260 and 280, all of their marks are close.
Maybe its like playing an old game, all new cards pushes the frame rate to a point where none can see much difference.
