I currently have the EVGA GTX 260 core 16 and I want to use the stepup program, but not sure if I should get the GTX 285 or the GTX 295. I heard the GTX 295 is extremely loud which I am not a fan of. Also the 285 will be only 100 bucks more while the 295 will be 250 more. So what do you think will be the best? Is the 285 a fine card?

if you want a card soon, i suggest getting the GTX285. I've been on the waiting list to step up to a GTX295 since 1/31/2009, and i'm still #271 in the queue. I started at #289

Do you actually need something better?

As romulus47plus1 said, the GTX 285 is the best "single GPU" solution right now (about 5% better than a GTX280). On the other hand, you have a board supporting SLI so instead of getting a GTX 295 (which is basically a GTX 260 x2), why not just add a 2nd GTX 260 for ~200$ and save yourself the trouble of the step-up?

285 GT = 55 nm revisions of 280 GTX + higherclocks
295 = 2 x's 55nm revisions of 260 GTX SP 240 its not just 260 cards, they are hybrids of 260 and 280.

I would go single gpu, since nothing more is need. A 8800 GT(9800 GT) can basically keep up with everygame maxed, some cases even at 1920x1200 resolution. And the 285 GTX is basically double the horse power.

When does your stepup program end?

To be honest i really don't need a better card but I am the kind of person who like the best. plus for only a 100 bucks more I would rather have the 285. I only have like 9 days left on it.

If I had a SLI board, I would rather get a 2nd card. The performance would be better than a GTX 285 in most games, don't have to part with my video card for who knows how many days and if an accident happens and one card dies, you have a "spare".
