Look up Briefcase in Windows Help. Can use a direct cable/null modem, usually between COM ports.

Networking two computers is more common these days -- you just need a crossover version of an ethernet cable and use the networking wizard. Though you have to set file sharing on relevant drives and turn off firewalls -- and Windows Networking's Add New Network Place can seem a bit reluctant to work at first.

Don't link to the other computer you'll just spread the virus. Treat it locally. If you can't, back your important personal files onto a memory stick. Reinstall Windows. Then install a good virus/malware program and check the memory stick carefully before copying the files back.
