I was planning on buying an ati 4870 x2 for my new computer until i went to newegg and saw this for $429 US dollars, which is quite a bit for me. It seemed a little too much so i thought what if i buy it from someone off of ebay. The prices are half of what newegg wants and i get the card i want. What could be better? BUT, is it really too good to be true? When i see these auctions for a $450 card going for $250, it makes me wonder if they're trying to get rid of it because something is wrong with it. So, is it worth the risk of getting a defective or slightly problemed card that doesn't perform like it should for half the price or should i just get it full price knowing it will work when i get it? I personally think that it would be worth it to get the card from ebay, but what are your opinions? Thanks for the feedback. (if you've bought a card from ebay before, please share the experience with us)

i wouldn't buy 2nd hand computer parts. You never really know how they were used and if they are damaged. It's best to use an online retailer so if something does go wrong, you can return it and get another one. Also, you would have the manufacturers warranty (if there is one)

First of all there is little reason why anybody will sell a 4870 X 2 at this time. It is still the top dog in performance. It might have been heavily overclocked and burnt and damaged and you might just notice the problems after a few days and left with nothing. If the card has double life time warranty, then perhaps it might be ok. Again you don't know of which manufacturer it is. I don't think ebay is that reliable so you shouldn't put that much of money into it.

You should consider buy a new card. I would say wait for and get the 40nm cards when they come out.

The 4870 X2 is NOT the top dog in performance.

Where do you see this ebay add for half price, I think you must be looking at a completely different card.

I`d only buy used parts from E-bay if I could n`t source elsewhere, new, perhaps, but not used, the risk is just too great, especially if you`re going to be spending several hundreds or thousands of (insert local currency here) on an item.

it is the 4870 x2 and it is going for $153.80 (at the time i posted the link) with 1 day 21 hours left.

And a recent chart comparing graphics cards in Crysis gameplay and the 4870 x2 is clearly on top in CF and on top of all other single cards when alone (BEFORE GTX 285 and 295 came out so don't use that as an excuse.) even then, the 4870 x2 is better than the gtx 285 and maybe equal to the gtx 295.
