Hi to all!
I am now in the process of trying to decide which satellite service to
purchase, which is a separate issue in itself , BUT what is more critical
will be the method that I must install it all.
Due to the arrangement of my home, I can not have one, uninterrupted cable
going from the dish to each room. I Must have the cables that come from the
dish go directly into the basement where they will have to be distributed to
the four rooms throughout the house.
I have heard that this is not practical with satellite, that every
connection will degrade performance, not to mention the damage that long
cable lengths can cause.
Is there a black and white answer to:
Is there a cable length limit and what is it?
Can you satellite via a distribution point as outlined above and still have
maximum signal strength?

Keep cable lengths from dish to receiver less than 90 ft. I f you must go
longer than 90 feet per receiver then in-line amplifiers are your best bet
for keeping good signal strength. Use quality RG-6 coax and make good
F-Connector connections and it doesn't matter.
Why you want to run all your cabling into the basement, then back out to the
receivers is beyond me. Yes, you will need a multiswitch of some sort (as
you don't say what type of dish you intend to install), can't say what you
would need.
