I have a gtx 285 (reg. version) What are the true performance benefits? Someone told me it's only around 20%.

Doing SLI only makes sense if you have a monitor of at least 1680x1050 resolution. Even then, its questionable, especially if you have a 1gb card to start with. If you have a larger monitor, then SLI starts to make a real difference. Back when video cards were a lot less powerful than they present are, SLI could put in some good benefits. But not so much now. Since you didn't state your monitor size, I can't tell you anything for sure. Oh yea, a 20% improvement in frame rates sounds about average, though you can turn the eye candy up as well.

Well it's going to depend alot on your system and the resolution you want to play at. Some games scale well with SLI, and some not so much. If you have a fast overclocked quad core then you will see some good benefit out of SLI. If you have a weak CPU though then it can actually lower your frame rates if your video cards are having to wait for your CPU to divide up the work.

Well to sum up what they have said is...

1. If u want to play at any of these resolutions 2560X1600 or 1900X1200 with AA and AF on, then the SLI will offer a lot of boost to the graphics and framerate...
2. It is not onlu enuf if u have 2 powerful cards in SLI to get a major boost in graphics...It should be supported by a equally powerful CPU..Eg: core i7(if overclocked an added advantage ) or the Extreme version CPUs ... or say a Core2 CPU overclocked above 3.5GHz or more...(Higher is better)

Thanks for the info.!!

I have a pretty good system:

P6t deluxe
i7 920 cooled by the Coolermaster V10
9 gb corsair dominator
gtx 285 (wish I got the 295)

I'm thinking of shelling out the cash for the gtx 295. If they ever become available again. It's amazing how many people can afford a $500 card!
