whats the max quad temp i should shoot for? I was gonna start off the bat at
20.5 core multi with 1.5V
14X cpu-nb multi with 1.35V
12X ht link multi

Is this soild? I dont have any OC experience but have read quite a lot about it

Looking to hit the unlock quad OC to 4.0GHz mark.

As for maximum temps you don't really want to go over 60C while running prime 95. 4GHz would be a good overclock as a dual core, its not impossible as an unlocked quad but its very optimistic. Also you need to test stability as soon as its unlocked (if it does) and move up slowly from there not go straight for a high setting.

I also have seen many overclocking attempts with unlocked processors and it seems likely that unlocking will reduce the max overclock the CPU is capable of.
According to Anandtech, the only AMD CPU's they have seen reliably hit 4.0 Ghz in 64 bit windows are the hexacores. So that's something to keep in mind.

I think you could easily hit 3.8 Ghz with it as a dual core, but if you can hit that high with it unlocked that would be awesome.

I definitely wouldn't start at 1.5 Volts. That is too high for the CPU.

Is there a guide to doing it for this cpu?

im running my Phenom II X2 555 BE 4core unlocked @ 3910Ghz 1.44 Core Voltage
17x multiplier
230 bus Speed
Ht Link @2300 Mhz
DDR3 @ 1533Mhz 9-9-9-24
NB voltage @ 1.3
memory Voltage ( depends on specifics of whatever brand you have)

My questione to you is why did you not break 4.0 mark? heat?
Why not just keep hitting the multiplier up as long as ur below 60 celsuius

for me at those settings it runs a hair quicker ( FPS in games ) then @ 4Ghz heat isnt an issue full load @ 47c idle @ 29 c

Whats your cooler? and you mean games run faster for you at a lower clock??
Also i have 1333 ram. DDR3. What would my timings be? same? If i copied those exact settings.

heres a pic of some of my info ( cpuz and whatnot ) and memory timings start off with what is "recomended" under the manufacturers info for whatever memory you have

I have a 555BE with a Coolermaster TX3. Over at another overclocking forum I read a little piece on overclocking the HT and it showed that as the HT frequency went up performance went down. You may want to check that out. PM me for the details.

Mine is currently running as a tri-core (Core 2 is borked) at 3900 (NB at 2600, HT stock) on just the multiplier. I think anything is possible. Before I figured out that Core 2 was troubled I had 4 cores running at 3885 with a NB of 2600. Stable in prime95, 3dMark06, etc. but made popping sounds out the speakers in games. My RAM seems iffy so I have it running at 1333 and I don't touch the bus speed. For now, until I get a little more ambitious + have more time.

Krazipo thats amazing at only 1.44V, I can't quite get 3.765GHz stable at 1.45V running 10C higher what cooler are you using?

Your cooler is .6 degrees better. Although my ambient temps are 68. I like the cold. I should be able to attain the 4ghz clock then

Also how did you check ur temps with 4 cores. The temp monitor shuts off.

Reply to mavarick22

Most programs ie speedfan pick up a sensor on your motherboard on my PC it tends to report 7C higher at idle and 10C full load higher than the core temps. Also just because you have the same/similar processor, cooler and air temps than someone doesn't mean you can overclock the same you will be lucky if you get 4 cores unlocked & stable and even luckier if you get much over 3.6GHz as a quad. My above post should have said I can only nearly get 3.675GHz stable not 3.765.

your right no 2 similar chips will overclock or "unlock" the same its a hit n miss all hardware dependent and me i rely on my actual bios temps i only use sensor software for a round about idea of my temps

and am still somewhat new to the overclocking community ( a lil over 6 years overclocking / modding )

This is what iam confused about. What is the wall? Will it not just boot up? Will a heat sensor beep? How do i know when I've maxed the chip safely?

Reply to mavarick22

You will normally find either your temperatures are getting to high or you have increased the voltage beyond what is safe or the system just isn't stable.

with my A790GXM-AD3(v1.0) with a the Bus Speed Between 234 and 240 it wont boot no matter what i try between those bus speeds i believe that is the "wall" people are talking about .

Will this be a good build to overclock 2500k to 5.0GHz?
