I have questions about the radeon 4850.

I'm looking to buy a 4850 512mb soon for my new build. I hear this card is super hot. Here are the parts i recently bought (below).

2Gbx2|PATRIOT PDC24G6400

INTEL| E5200

PSU ANTEC|EA650 RT

CASE ANTEC|THREE HUNDRED

MB GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R P45 775 R

XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler

XIGMATEK ACK-I7751 Retention Bracket -

Already have HDD, Optical

1. What are the best models for a 4850 for price/performance/cooling? (preferrably on newegg, but not exclusive)

2. I hear many people are getting aftermartket GPU coolers for their card. I dont really feel like buying one unless it was completely necessary. Do I need to get one?

3. Will my Xigmatek s1283 cool the card so I can OC it along with my CPU?

4. Any other advice or things I should buy.

You Can Go for the his iceq4 radeon, than you dont need any aftermarket coolers
It keeps temperatures down alot better than the normal coolers
and it is a small margin faster. You get it in 12 and 1Gb versions

You can choose Sapphire Toxic HD4850 it's really cool~ the gpu cooler of it is very powerful...
If you get a generic 4850 and you want to OC , a new gpu is needed . In a way the cool-system in the case is also important.

do u mean a new cooler is needed? (not gpu) how much should i be spending on these. is there a way to control the fan speed so i can just stick with stock?

You may think about this if you get a poor-cooling HD4850

and you can control the fan speed with some softwares or actiyators . If you think it's too noisy , a suit of water cooling system is best ever.

I have one of the original (poor cooling) 4850s. Yes, you can control the fan in either the CCC (comes with the drivers) or with another program if it comes with the card. At 55% (where it is just barely audible, imo) the card idles at 42C and maxes around 70C. Now, that 70C may sound a little high, but with the stock fan speed setting it idled at 80C+! Also note, I think this card is good up to 90-100C+, so a 70C max is good. However, with all of the good coolers on the new ones now (like the IceQ) I'm not sure why you'd want one of the original ones. If you do get an aftermarket cooler, make sure the ram/vrm is well cooled, as some coolers do a poor job in these areas.

i would go either XFX or IceQ4. i have the XFX card and on 50% fan i cant here it and it idles at 37C and maxes at 57C with an overclock.
