Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew what would be the best kind of Harddrive for a Vaio vgn sz680 (business) with Vista. I thought of buying off laptoppartsexpert but I'm always a bit skeptical of these sites who has everything...

I actually don't know the first thing about harddrives (I just ordered a RAM earlier today, thinking it used for memory storage), so any (and I mean ANY) help would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
The original laptop has one of either 200GB, 160GB, or 120GB - you can check this on "My Computer" properties. There are also other nice programs such as "Belarc Advisor" that you can download free, and see all the devices and software installed on your computer.

If your hard drive has failed, then you can buy a replacement hard drive of HIGHER capacity than the original and install that. This one will work well - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148455&cm_re=hard_drives_laptop-_-22-148-455-_-Product

In order to do a replacement, you must first perform a 'disk cloning' and get all the data as well as the OS (Vista in your case) off of the old disk. This can be done by using Apricorn's Drivewire -...

The instructions are very clear, and a lot of computer knowledge is not required for using this. I have used this very successfully on one laptop as well as 2 desktops.

From personal experience, this product also will work very well - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602&cm_re=apricorn_ez_upgrade-_-17-155-602-_-Product

Look into both of these products and buy one. And get the replacement hard drive from Newegg.

Good luck!

Actually, my original is 64gb because I managed to fool myself into thinking the lower gb I bought, the less time I would focus on gaming/media and the more time I would on work... but that didn't work out well.

Anyways, thank you so much! It would probably be inappropriate to express my UNDYING love and gratitude to you but I will still do anyways: I LOVE YOU!! If this works, I may just have to find you and shine your shoes or something.

Thanks again!
