Only reason i am writing a new thread is to say please stay on topic.
I am trying to make a educated decision on what to get for a gaming computer.
though i keep getting responses "get this for video editing", Nvidia fan boys, as well as ATI,
and even the occasional person who tries to crap a stupid joke.
So here it goes again =P

I am trying to decide on one of these 3 builds.
my budget here is just anything shy of 1k.
Price vs. Performance means everything to me,
And also the time length till i have to upgrade again just for
future games.

Core 2 duo
Motherboard: ASUS P5Q-E
Processor: E8600 3.33Ghz
Memory: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Video Card: Sapphire HD4870 1gb
Power Supply: Corsair 750 Watt
Heat sink: XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
$851.94

Core 2 Quad
(Everything from the Core 2 duo build)
Processor: Q9550 2.83Ghz
$876.94

Intel i7
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R
Processor: i7 920 2.66Ghz
Memory: G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
Video Card: Sapphire HD4870 1gb
Power Supply: Corsair 750 watt
Heat Sink: Vigor Monsoon III LT Dual 120mm Fan CPU Cooler
$1,064.94

I have looked up benchmarks, and what i am mostly interested in is gaming performance, i will not, do not plan to, probably never will do any video editing in my life. So scalable performance in that is lost on me =p
The 2 questions i ask are

1: Which build would excel better in games?

2: Which build would last longer in the long run? (Price/Performance)

For example, if the core 2 duo or quad would last just as long performance wise as the i7 until i would like to upgrade, then that would be the way to go. But if all of a sudden programs and games require alot more, and the i7 is ideal, that 200$ more i could of spent on a i7 computer, all of a sudden turns my 850$ computer into crap, and i have to spend money on a whole new computer. See my dilemma?

I plan on playing games like:
Call of duty world at war
Fall out 3
diablo III
Star craft II

also some games that don't have a release date yet like Elder scrolls V (2010 release) and bioshock 2
(Once any of these computers starts to struggle in a game, i do plan to crossfire another HD4870)

Thanks for any opinions, and ideas anyone may post. please stay on topic though =]

I'd go with the i7 build, gaming performance (right now) may not quite match up with an overclocked (4.0+) E8600 for most games but in the long run it will pay off. If you have to go with the stock cooler or 2x2 GB of DDR3 to squeeze it into your budget and wait a month or so to get an aftermarket cooler or another 2GB of RAM it's what i'd do.
