disk boot failure means that your HDD is not detected in the BIOS make sure that the cable is fit well to the HDD, or try to change the IDE cable of your HDD if it is IDE type, or change the SATA cable if it is sata type of cable... hope it works..

Hello lesley lofter and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Your problem sometimes can be cured by running Windows Checkdisk in the repair mode to find and fix disk errors so if you can borrow an XP CD for the purpose of repair only, load that up and boot to the point of the first Repair option then type chkdsk /r at the Command Prompt and press Enter. A five stage process will follow which might take some time but might fix the bad sector your boot files are sitting on.

When it finishes, type fixboot and press Enter then accept the warning. When it finishes, type fixmbr, press Enter and accept that warning as well and type exit when it finishes to restart the system.

If you cannot borrow a CD, take the hard disk out and slave it into the machine you're posting from.

If the disk has failed, your personal files may still be in tact. Download a copy of PCLinuxOS from http://www.pclinuxos.com, burn it to disk and use that as a Live CD to run the system and give you access to your data on the Windows Partition.
