Hello everyone, Im new here. OK heres my problem:
I just bought a Club 3D 8800 GT 512 MB GDDR3, Plugged it in, Installed the LASTEST drivers from Nvidia website.
I already had Far Cry 2, But when I was running it Average FPS was like 9 :(
I figured out it was my CPU overheating, I brought a new fan and installed it, now It runs at like 21 FPS average.
But when I play for like 20 minutes, My PC reboots :??:
I have a P4 Dual Core 3.2 Ghz, and 1.5 DDR2 RAM, Already tested those they work perfectly.
The strange thing is when my pc was rebooting, it smelled like burning plastic in the PSU (Power Supply)

Please consider that I already updated my drivers, checked my CPU and RAM (well for CPU idk but it heats up to 57 C° on load)

So my question is, Could it be that my PSU is limiting my graphic card ?

PS: I have 1 molex connector plugged in the Molex to 6 pins adapter for my graphics card (It requires 2 molex, but the seller told me not to plug 2, cuz it may burn the graphic card)

Im running Far Cry 2 at 1024x768 Everything Ultra High .... Well I have a 8800 GT, lol

Thanks in advance

Seems to me that you might be overloading your PSU, therefore the burning plastic smell, how much amps does PSU pumps in the 12 V rails?

Well, I already remplaced my PSU, Got a new one ...
No more reboots, but still the performance issue remains ...

I was running Far Cry 2 at 1024x768 AAx2 Ultra High and it was like 13 FPS ...

I really need help here, I have a 8800 GT Goddammit !

Thanks again.

My config Again:

80 GB HDD
8800 GT 512 MB GDDR3 Club3D
1,5 GB DDR2
P4 Dual Core 3,2 Ghz (Well-Cooled)

Try to change the AAx2 to AAx0 or AAx4 and see if there is a deferens in fps if the fps after this remains the same than your cpu is bottleneck your gpu.

Well already tried that, It slightly changes a bit ... Might it be some spy wares causing the problem ?
And by the way, Theres no Thermal Grease between my CPU and my Cooling FAN.
But the temperature is stable (Well I think)

Sorry for double post but I have to remind you again - I only have 1 Molex Connector Connected to the 2 Molex Connectors to 6 Pins used for alimenting the 8800 GT.

Did you say your 8800 GT has 2 6 pin connectors on it? if it does make sure you plug those in! that is why your having fps lag! who told you it will fry it? its designed for two 6 pin power connectors, that's why it has two.

Note: I am not 100% sure of this so some one comfirm please, don't connect two untill some one else comfirms lol!

Ayoubsss,

1- The specs for your power supply, may help others to help you.

2- A "P4- Dual Core 3.2", do you mean a Pentium D 940 or are you confusing the fact that a single core P4 with Hyperthreading shows up as 2 cores ?

I bought a new power supply today: A 450W one
I have a 2 Molex to 6 Pins adapter, the seller told me not to plug two Molex in the adapter, So I plugged one only ...

I've run CPU-Z and it says:
Name: Intel Pentium 4 540
Package: Socket 775 LGA
And yes you're right I've confused Dual Core with HT technology, as It is marked in the Logo "Pentium 4 HT Inside"
I hope Its not my CPU, Im out of cash to buy a new one ..

OK this is it ... I plugged'em both, I've run Far Cry 2 at No-AA 1024x768 Everything Very High and it puts like 19,1 FPS ...
While in 8800 GT benchmark, they run Far Cry 2 at 1280x1024 AAx2 Very high at 30 FPS min 40 FPS max ..

I don't know who "they " are, but you should check the specs of their test machine, it's highly likely that they are using a much more powerful cpu than your's.

Well thanks to everyone who answered me, I unfortunately do not have enough cash to buy a brand new processor, so I'll work with what I have ...

Best wishes.
