Hi I'm running Vista Ultimate SP2. I have a 5-in 1 card reader in my laptop. Out of the blue on start-up it keeps adding and removing non stop. If I look in My Computer I can see it appearing and disappearing constantly. Its slowing the system down noticeably but bearably. I’ve never had any problems with the card reader and there is no memory inserted into it. The sound of it adding and removing every second is driving me mad so I cant use the computer with the sound on.

I have tried:
1. Disabling the device via device manager.
2. Uninstalling the driver
3. Re-installing the driver
4. Updating the driver (auto update thing couldn’t find a better driver)
5. Restarting the computer
6. System restoring to a point before it started happening.
How can I stop this? If it means I can’t use it, so be it but id prefer it if it was working normally obviously. Interestingly the first time I noticed this it was adding and removing itself and then it settled and worked normally.
Thanks for reading and if you can help.
