I've found all the information for free on several other web sites,
including the download links to get all the freeware that's required.

http://www.bigdsvideo.com is one source - pretty good guide there.

Hope you didn't spend too much.

Not very good - I tried it. If you want trouble free one click conversion
try this. I have put 2 full DVD movies on a 256mb card and they are
brilliant with stereo sound too. http://www.makayama.com/dvdtopocketpc.html

How does DVD-to-Pocket PC work?

This software allows you to put a movie from a DVD on your Pocket PC in five
simple steps. What you need is:

- PC with Windows XP and built-in DVD-player

- 1 Gigabyte of free space on your C:\ disk (for a 100 minute movie) to
store a temporary file

- Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003

- Memorycard (Compactflash, SD or MMC) of at least 128 Mb.

On a 128 Mb Compactflash or SD-card you can store movies up to a 100
minutes. For longer movies and for better picture quality, a bigger
memorycard, such as 256 or 512 Mb is needed.

I agree totally - there are a couple of shareware or commercial programs
that do a great job. My point was that the one being sold on ebay is just
taking the free stuff from the internet and then "selling" the information.
All the information is found freely elsewhere.

But yes - I agree - the commercial programs are much better.

Spammers should be hung!

You didn't "buy" it, you are selling it, why not be honest?

Is this another one of those re-packaging of freeware things? So you can
make money off of others work??

One can easily download freeware, at no cost, that will enable one to encode
a DVD to a file playable on a PDA.

Some crooks try to repackage the freeware and sell it, to make money for
themselves, with nothing going to the programmers, who generously made their
work available as freeware.

also:

www.doom9.org

www.videohelp.com, and others.

And there are freeware programs that do it all automatically, like AutoGK,
Fair Use, or Pocket DIVX Encoder. It really doesn't make sense to spend
money one of the "programs" that are usually nothing other than repackaging
of the freeware programs, someone trying to make money from other people's
work.

Which "commercial programs" are much better? From what I've seen, in this
area of encoding DVDs to small video files, all the good programs are free.
There are completely automatic freeware programs available, that create very
good results, such as AutoGK, Pocket DIVX Encoder, and Fair Use. There are
others that require more user input, but of course give the user more
control. Look at www.doom9.org for more info on programs. (I gave more
details in another thread.)

I think that in most cases these programs you pay for to do this are nothing
other than repackaging of the freeware, someone trying to make money off of
other's creations. The originator had been so generous as to offer their
product to the public at no cost, but then someone else tries to make money
off it. I find that disgusting!

I think this second commercial program that someone was mentioning is merely
a front end for Windows Movie Maker. You could easily do that with freeware.
Use one of the programs I mentioned above, such as AutoGK, to rip the DVD to
an AVI file. However, if you are going to compress the movie small with WMM,
it doesn't make sense to compress it small first with the other program, as
recompression is not good. So, if you are going to convert to .wmv
afterwards, use the DVD-AVI program to create a large high-resolution AVI
without much compression, and then use WMM or WME to encode that AVI file to
WMV, at the smaller end size.
