Hey, the best sata iii ssd that I can afford is this :

The best sata 2 I can afford is:

The sata 2 is superior in write speed and not too far back on read speed. It literally rips the first one when it comes to write.

So would it be worth it to the the first one, my gut is saying the sata 2 is best.

More about : sata iii sata

First, the obvious question.

Does the Motherboard or Sata Expansion Card you are hooking the drive up to have Sata 3 support first?

For More Specific Details about Sata 3, Refer to here:

For Sata 2 look here.

My choice if your mobo and/or sata card support it, I'd say go with Sata 3
Cause it improves on overall performance.

Yes, I am getting the asus Rampage III Extreme . What improvements?

6 Gb/s for scalable performance when used with SSDs
An NCQ (Native Command Queuing) Management feature that helps optimize performance by enabling host processing and management of outstanding NCQ commands
Improved power management capabilities.

A lot of this provides performance boost in watching videos.

But, it gives the max theoretical speed a boost to 6gb/s.
Which in itself is great, especially for SSDs, since there are no moving parts, it really depends on the speed of the media. In which case Sata 3 is faster than Sata 2.

The links do not work, just takes you to a "front" page at newegg - not the product.

Could you be refering to the Sata III vs the vortex -2. If so I dought you will see any real world diff. Take alook at the PCVantage (which is suppose to be close to real work).

Go for size vs price. There is outside chance that a newer Firmware could improve the C300. Its like HDDs, going from sata 1 to sata II, was not a biggy (New HDDs improved and finnally benifited) NO Mechancial HDDs will benifit from SATA III. It will take a NEW crop of SSDs to benifit from SATA III. (SSDs in Raid 0 will benifit).
