I am looking into getting a gtx 260-216 card. The minimum watt power supply they recommend is 500. I have a 550 watt power supply. I think I have enough for video card and everything else. Am I correct in thinking that? I am just worried the buffer of 50 watt might not be enough. I have two +12v rails both at 18 amps, so I should be good on amps. The cpu I am going to get will the be the e8400. I have three hard drives, and five fans.
Reason I went for other one was the immediate discount they took off. And a possible mail in rebate, even though reviews had bad things to say about rebate. Also, this provides with plenty of power and amps.
The Rosewill would probably have worked, it's just a matter of having good case ventilation to keep them cool.
The Corsair is a much better unit, good choice.
As far as overhead goes you would have had much more than 50 watts.
500 watts is the power reccomendation for the system, not what it will draw.
I run an E8400 overclocked to 4.2, GTX260 overclocked, 3 HD's, 5 led fans and a cathode light kit on a 550 watt Gigabyte psu that has software to let me know how much power I'm using. Peak draw when running Orthos and Furmark is 354 watts, average is around 300 watts, plenty of overhead left.
Alright. Thank you for the explanation. I would have stuck with my rosewill, but I could not pass up the corsair with the instant 60 dollars off and then mail in rebate, if it works out. They basically cut it in half. I know corsair is a good brand. So I had to take it.
Didn't reccomend it, OP already has it.
Yes they are of lesser quality, but a single article doesn't tell the whole story. As long as it's not overloaded and kept cool, the Rosewill will work.
Yes, I read at Hardocp, other places as well
