Have a buget of about 1600.00 to build a new gaming rig. Here is what I have so far but im not locked in on anything atm.

AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz
EVGA 01G-P3-1280-AR GeForce GTX 280 1GB
mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 x2 (looking for 8 total gigs)
HT OMEGA STRIKER 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card

Having trouble with finding a good MB and what PSU. Any help would be greatly appriciated and again im not locked on any one particular thing. Tried to build a Core i7 with my budget but cant get it under 1900.00 for the full rig : (

I built a good i7 build for $1300.. with a better video card than the 280.. i went with the GTX 285.

CPU: Intel Core i7 920 = $290

Case: NZXT Tempest = $110

MOBO: EVGA X58 1366 = $300

Video Card: BFG Tech GTX 285 = $380

PSU: CORSAIR 850WATT = $140

RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 6GB = $180

HD: Western Digital Caviar 600gb = $75

Disc Drive: LG 22x DVD+R Burner = $20

CPU Cooler: Zalman 9700 = $54

Zalman 1366 bracket for CPU cooler (so it fits the i7) = $10

Therman Paste = $7

TOTAL = $1466 BEFORE Rebates & you can get a sound card too if you want but I would just save the $70-$100 & use the sound on the motherboard.

Where did you find those prices, I couldnt match those prices on newegg.ca or tigerdirect.ca. Obviously a bit of the price diffrence is the CAD to US dollar : )

I got them from newegg lol. Im in the US. Canadian will be a little more expensive. If you want to go a little cheaper, just replace the processor with the Q6600 Quad Core, its $190 & dont get the Zalman bracket & that saves you $110 right there... also, if you dont like that case, you can find a slightly cheaper one & save another $10-$30

P2 isn't that good of a value if you consider similar C2Q processors. Intel just recently slashed prices on their processors, I think the q9650 is at $315 US right now, Check out this article:

This was in response to Amd's release of P2. The P2 940 falls somewhere between q6600 and q9400 performance wise, better in some apps and worse in others, so Intel undercut Amd to make their processors a better deal again. The Q9550 would be a good option for you, or the Q9650 for $50 extra US.
