Help hard drive connect to laptop

I have a Dell PC Hard drive, with no monitor, can I and/or how do I connect it to my Dell laptop, to use the laptop as the main monitor, without a hub?>

Buy a monitor from the Salvation Army. They usually sell them for $5.
OR
Connect them through crossover (or straight-through if your NIC has auto-mdix, which most do), set static IPs, and enable Remote Desktop Protocol.
Desktop
IP address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Laptop
IP address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
OR
