I have a customer that is using an Access database with a Gui front end (Tenant Pro).

I'm specin' out a new system for them and debating the merits of a dual vs. quad core processor (e8500 vs. q9400).

I haven't been able to locate specific benchmarks agains access and CPUs, so I'm not sure if the 2 additional cores are worth it.

Any opinions?

Thanks...

Well MS applications in general are multithreaded but I dont' know specifically about access. One thing is for sure though... the dual core "might" be marginally faster than the quad if Access is not multithreaded, and the quad will absolutely own the dual core if Access is multithreaded so you can't really go wrong with just getting the quad.

Oh ya, email is the heart of work.

Just go with the quad, it may not give you better performance but the extra 2 cores will be good in the future.

Also if they're looking to save more cash look at the Phenom II setups.

Great -- thanks guys.

I'd second a Phenom II setup, if only for greater memory bandwidth. It might help a lot with Access (though, I'm no expert).
