Ok, so I've been searching the 'Net and found nothing helpful. Here's my issue:
I've been using the Overdrive over-clocking utility within the ATI Catalyst Control Center ever since my cards came out without issue. I usually set them all to 860 MHZ GPU and the 3870x2 memory to 955 (max utility will allow). I leave the memory of the 3870 at 1170 (or whatever...Overdrive not showing up now).
When I upgraded to Cat 9.1 I seem to have lost the ability to use the Overdrive utility. If I change the GPU speed even 5 mhz and click "test custom clocks" the system locks, even before the GPU usage increases on the meter of the utility.
I've tried each card individually and nothing worked, and I've even tried the auto function with the same results.
My games run really well with Cat 9.1, but not so well with 8.11 or 8.12. I did try experimenting with RivaTuner for overclocking the cards just before I installed Cat 9.1 and it worked fine, but I didn't like the fact that my card's fans ran a lot more and the cards ran hotter, most likely because PowerPlay wasn't functioning.
Any ideas?
BTW, RivaTuner is no longer installed, and every time the system locks from a failed attempt at o.c.ing the Overdrive section in the CCC is missing until the next boot.

well its a new grafix driver from them, the best way to get a better clock, and performance test out of it would be to wipe clean, everything, new windows, new driver, see if that is your prob and its not conflicting to the older driver, if it still doesnt work and show up in the CCC, it is ATI, they have done away with the overdrive, which would be good, since overdrive was horrible anywayz. Use Riva Tuner for all overclocking needs if possible and do it first with your FSB at stock for stability issues to find a good overclock for your graphics.
I agree that when a driver is in question, a clean install of Windows might help. But this is really not an attractive option. It takes way too long to get your system back up the way you want it and reloading all apps. can be a pain.
I'd really like to know if I'm alone in this issue. If it ends up that way, I'll start with CCC re-installs.
I don't like how loud my system is when not gaming if I use RivaTuner for over clocking. I have aftermarket ZeroTHERM fans on both cards, so fan speed is not adjustable through the CCC or RivaTuner, only by hardware temp. or mobo BIOS settings.
