How to recover info from unreadable USB?

Hello,
My USB contains info, but one virus entered, i erased the corrupted file but now PC reads USB as unformatted, do you want to format? I did not format again, and one recovery data shareware detected it has a lot of info retrievable, but shareware needs payment for the job. Can I get if with some freeware?
