Noctua NH-D14 question

Hi, I have an i7, Asus p6x58D motherboard. Was wondering if I have to undo the motherboard and put the clip on the back to mount this noctua heatsink?

Or can I mount this heatsink regularly, without taking the motherboard out?

You will need to remove the board to fit the mounting bracket.

That mounting bracket is there partly to hold the heatsink to the board, and partly to prevent the heatsink forcing the CPU and its socket through the board.

It has its own backplate, so unless you have a case with a cutaway in the tray to allow access to the backplate, it will have to be removed to do so.

Hi, even if your case has a Cut out for the CPU cooler, the noctua is very very big so it would be wise to take the motherboard out and then install it.

What do you guys recommend for applying artic silver 5 on an i7? Like how to do it?

I heard a small line through the middle of the cpu is the best for an i7? Or should I spread it around evenly?
