As long as you stay away from playing games or running large programs from the drive, it should do just fine for you. You will only notice a speed difference from the RPM if you do extensive high computing actions involving the external.

Why are you going external - no internal bays?

Do you have a usb 3.0 port on your PC

I doubt this will be a speed demon, but OK for backups, word documents, small pictures, and the like.

i have internal bays... OP said external drive. And of course i have usb 3. and this would be a backupdrive, for movies, game ISO's, and programs- none of which would be directly ran from the drive, except maybe movies... just moved over and ran when needed.

Just popped over to newegg- reviews seem decent, apparently this does the 4K sector thing so make sure you're aware of that. Otherwise, sounds like a decent deal.
