Hi.

I have an old 7600GS gigabyte GC and I replaced it with HD4850. When I tried to use the card again after several months not being used, I am having problems which I found really strange.

When I used this card before, It was factory overclocked and I have added Few ups as well.but it was stable. Now, When my friend's pc starts, Im having graphical errors in the screen. like lines, even the computer starts to POST. but after atleast 5-10 minutes, all the problems are gone.its working. I don't know what kind of problem is this exactly but it gets better when its hot. The machine I tested my 7600GS has a 500W powering 8500GT and the PSU is Generic. Is it the PSU not having enough power to run this card? Or what about this coldbug? well i don't really know much about that bug though.

Appreciate your help.

cimpercee are you useing the 4850 video card with the gerneric 500 power suppy.on the side of the power supply it has all it specs.and I would be surprised the gerneric have good enough power to run the 4850.

if you give all your specs of the pc you will get a lot more responses.

well with my PC, its not generic. though i have 550W HEC PSU about 38A in +12V. haven't tried it yet there because I currently gave this to a friend. The spare computer we could only use atm is the one with 500W PSU which is generic. It powers 4000+x2, 8500GT and a sata 80GB HD.I replaced the 8500GT with my gigabyte 7600GS and the problem started. though it is only there for few minutes.

cimpercee when you swapped out video cards did you load updated drivers, the 4850 only requires 400 psu.but the generic and the hec psu are really not good psu.may just need to clean the drivers with driver cleaner and reload new one.

well, haven't installed the drivers yet and im having problems with 7600GS. for the 4850 and my HEC PSU, got no issues with it. which is more power hog, 7600GS or 8500GT?

cimpercee the 7600 gs and the 8500gt are nvidia cards useing nvidia drivers.the 4850 is a ati card using ati drivers.if you are only having problems with the 7600 gs my next try would be clean the drivers out of the pc and reload the nvidia video drivers.

well sorry not explaining above.yes my driver is clean so no need to worry about the drivers. and please note, that even in POST, im already having glitches with the screen. it will disapper once the card heats up.also, my 4850 is in my computer. we are testing this on a different computer with a generic PSU. Drivers for this PC is clean as well. im actually thinking of 2 possible problems, PSU or the 7600GS.

yes 8500GT works perfect.

cimpercee the 7600gs may have gone bad.you can check the caps on the video card to see if any are bulged at the top.if the 8500gt is working ok that can just about rule out your psu.and the 8500 gt is a better card than the 7600gs.of course you already knew that.hope this all helped you out
