im thinking of getting a new card soon. now the cards in my budget are 4870 and gtx260 216 cores. now i kno that a 4870 is faster than a 260 190 cores but do the extra cores on the 216 make up for the gap. also any info on dx11 cards? ps i want a card capable of 1080 resolutions

my current rig is
q6600 stock
4gb XMS2 corsair ram
8800gts 320mb

I had same situation and I went for 4870 1gig edition....the only drawback for going for ati is avivo video converter does not work in vista 64 bit.

if you want to game at 1080p resolution I would suggest buying aftermarket heatink and overclocking. I got my q6600 to run at 3.6ghz and it works like charm

the problem is that the 1gb radeon is a tad too expensive

Stable driver? Whats unstable about ATI drivers? Me along with a million other people are running ATI cards with no problems. Not to mention Tom's and a million other sites benchmark crossfire systems regularly and not one mention of unstable drivers, hmmmmm.

So how do YOU figure they are unstable

Typical fanboy comment to dissuade someone from buying ATI product.

Nvidia Propaganda... soon many people will start to say how the GT240(8800GT) Pwns the Hd4830 and 9800GT(aka 8800GT) for only 30$ more.

Id Go with the cheapest, but if money is not limiting factor go with a EVGA GTX260, best thing Nvidia has is the step up program and EVGA customer service.

On another note, the GTX260 216 is a bit faster, but of course it costs more considering I've seen 4870 512's in the $165 range.
