Hi everyone, I just switched my BIOS to AHCI mode and noticed that now in windows, both my Drives are listed in safely remove hardware. I understand this is a feature of AHCI, but I have no desire to ever disconnect my hard drives(both internal). Is there any way to at least get this useless icon out of the taskbar? I'd like to do the same for my buddies laptop too.

I would just switch back to IDE but apparently AHCI is faster and with it I can skip auto IDE detection during post so I'd like to keep AHCI on, I just don't want the icon in my taskbar.

SATA supports hot swap of disk drives, and when you use AHCI mode the system is able to access all of the SATA features - thus Windows now shows the drives as removable.

But you can configure the drives to indicate they're not removable - see: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/eSATA.mspx
