Hard drive not detected

Hello,
i have an iomega external hard drive and when i plug it in it my laptop makes the noise that something has been connected but it doenst come up in my computer so i cant access it. Can anyone help me please..

What may be happening is that your computer is recognizing the external connections going to the Hdd inside the enclosure, but your Hdd may actually be bad. I would suggest taking the Hdd out of the enclosure and connecting it to your computer directly to see if it is working. If it is working that way then it is most likely something to do with the actual enclosure.
