FYI, Gigabyte x58 and USB 3 Boot-up

I'm posting this in case it's of any use to anybody.

On my Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0), I cannot boot from an external optical drive using the USB 3.0 ports. The USB 2.0 ports work fine.

I have an Aleratec external DVD/CDRW copier which has been fairly robust so far. I don't know what the USB 2.0 chipset is, inside of that, however.

  1. All they did in usb 3.0 is add another bus line to make it faster transfer from device to computer. Most people say its about the same speed as estat but it all depends on what device you are using
  2. That's useful to know. When booting up on my GA-P55A-UD3 (rev 2.0) mobo, the keyboard does not work in the USB 3 slots (after booting up into Windows it works fine). The keyboard works fine in the USB 2 slots both when booting up and once I'm in the OS.
