I recently purchased a xfx 780i mobo and it seems to be causing issues, such as my q6600s temps which today are hitting 75C just from playing music, browsing and playing football manager. Could a faulty motherboard cause an overheat?
I would check the way you applied your thermal paste on your cpu, and what kind of contact its getting with the cpu, and could you tell us what air cooler your using. What temperature program are you running?

Well im using a 3rd party cooler but its no better than the stock. It is properly seated although i dont have much paste on it. I use coretemp.
What temps did you get before? What MB did you have before? What casing/fans do you have? What kind of thermal paste do you have and used to have?

Are you sure the HSF is installed correctly? I think there would have to be something seriously wrong with the voltage regulators for the board to make the CPU that hot, especially if it went without being detected by monitoring systems (if it has such a thing).
