Laptop Windows xp gets a purple screen

Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I have an older IBM T43 laptop, and recently the screen turned purple, and I tried contol, alt, del., but didn't work, have to power shut down. I did a virus scan, which showed nothing. The only thing I have installed recentle is Google Toolbar? Help!

does your purple screen keep coming back?

does it say anything on the screen or is it just blank purple color?
