ASUS A8N-SLI Motherboard Chip set fan

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Asus ASUS A8N-SLI Motherboard Chip set fan

I have an ASUS A8N-SLI and my Chip set Fan is not spinning. On reboot I get a warning message saying that it has failed or speed too slow. I thought the message was referring to the CPU fans, so I purchased and installed a new one, however, the message still displays. Can I purchase a new fan for the chip set? If so, where, what is it called exactly? Are there instructions for getting the old fan off and new fan on? Do I just buy a new barebones kit and start over?

I had to replace my fan. It was easy as I didn't have to remove my mother board. You can get a new fan here http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.a [...] &catid=135

Thanks for posting that link. The A8N-SLI deluxe/Premium MBs are notorious for failure of that chipset fan. I have two ASUS A8N's running currently as well as a socket 754 which are all listed on the site. Hey, spare replacement parts were hard to come by.

I have the Premium version which has NO fan for the chipset, just a heatsink.

Many people have replaced the chipset fan/heatsink combo on motherboards with a better heatsink (no fan). Make sure it doesn't interfere with a graphics card.

If your fan is not spinning it's likely defective. I believe it should always be spinning.

You could temporarily rig up a fan to blow on or across it if you are worried about overheating. I wouldn't game on it until your fan is replaced.

Agree with photonboy. I have the Premium too. I returned the deluxe and got the premium and have it runnng for years now. I have to wonder if ASUS 'improved' those replace fans they are selling currently for the Deluxe.
