E8400@3600 MHZ ,4GB ram ,Asus P5N-D. And I play at 1280x1024.I KNOW IT'S NOT THE BEST RESOLUTION.I need a higher one to truly make use of sli. But my parents won't let me buy a new monitor with MY OWN money.

SLI 8800GTS 512 and 1280x1024? You are already at way overkill.

A single 8800GTS 512 will run nearly everything you throw at it quite handily at that resolution. You also know that that 8800 overclocks very well? Keep the shader clock and core locked, raise the core speed to around 775. (stock is 650)
Then raise the memory very slightly, a little at a time till you start having errors.
The memory is pretty sensitive, usually around 1100 is about the best you will get.
I usually just leave the memory a stock, and work with the core/shader clock.

To do any better than what you have, you would need a GTX295, or a 4870X2.

However, once again, at the res you are running, you don't need more than 1 of the cards you have right now.

Are you shure it can do 775 mhz?I'm at 725 now.Idon't want to drastically reduce they're lifetime.Memory is at 1015.Memory doesn't really increase fps that much.
Is evga precision a good overclocking software?
And btw is there a way to make the monitor malfunction over time?LOL.So I could buy a new one.I have this 17'' monitor for 3.5 years now .I missed some great sales. There was a 22'' samsung for only 140$!!

Your cards are already extreme overkill for that resolution. Buying a new card no matter what it is will be a total waste of money. Even when/if you upgrade the monitor and start playing at say 1920 x 1080, the cards you have now are still more powerful than a single GTX 285.

Who said anything about 4830?

You provided no info, so I gave you a range of options.

My BFG will do 825, but I have to lock the fan on high, and it's pretty loud. 775 seems to be something it can deal with pretty well.
I just use Rivatune, has worked well for me.

But really, for the res you are running, you could simply pull one of the them out and shelve for a backup.
Try it, you may be surprised to find you won't notice any difference! And you may just get rid of a few issues running games
that don't play too well with SLI, less heat in the case, less power drain on the PSU, etc.
SLI is really kind of pointless at what you have to run with right now.

It is pointless, its totally pointless. Odds are its hurting his performance. Crossfire/SLi is worthless and pointless on any res below 1680 x 1050

You could have an unforunate accident......say like accidentally spilling a cup of coffee or water into the top of the monitor..LOL
Make sure it's turned on when you do so you can enjoy the visual fireworks!!!!!
Or, you could say have the power cord wrap around your leg and when your parents are around just stand up and walk away from your comp and the monitor will come flying off your desk and they'll know you need a new one then!
Good Luck!

I do get better FPS even at this low resolution with SLI so I will not take one card out.
I could use nhancer and set profiles for games that have issues or run perfectly with 1 GPU.And let SLI enabled for games that use SLI even at this resolution.
Here you can compare one 8800 GTS 512 to the 9800GX2(wich is basicaly 8800 GTS 512 SLI) and there is a big FPS gain even at 1280x1024.

That's pretty difficult with an LCD.

+1

www.craigslist.org

I've got a 512 8800GTS at 770 core/1830 shader /1080 memory. I game at 1920x1200, and I'm playing most games on high/very high with Stalker Clear Sky, Crysis, and Crysis Warhead being the exceptions.

But I run COD4, COD W@W, Left 4 Dead, etc completely maxed out.

The 8800GTS is an amazing card, overclocks like crazy, and IMO should be on the same tier as the 8800/9800 GTX on Tom's monthly graphic cards for the money chart.
