I have a dual core on my EVGA 780i Motherboard as of right now. My question is I'm wanting to get a new CPU and I was wondering is the new i7's compatible with my motherboard? Or is anyone out running the i7 on the 780i motherboard.

i have a xfx nvidia 780i sli with an i7 965 and it flies..............there is no physicall change in the socket........other than the name its the same 775 pins on the cpu all you have to do is update the bios..............=d

As the owner of an i7, and having helped several friends with their LGA775 builds, I can promise you that this is complete bull.

Here's a picture of an i7 and a Core 2 Quad next to each other showing the incompatibility quite clearly:
