How do I get 16 GB into four slots for memory. ASUS M4A79T Deluxe says it supports up to 16 MB of memory. At the moment, I would just like to get 8MBs in there, and then fill the rest later. Isn't there any memory kits that come with like 4GBstime2, for a total of 8MB, leaving me with two more slots to fill later? Thank you for any input. This is all new to me. I'm ordering all the parts for my build one at a time and trying to get it right.

Ah, kk. Thank ya very much. I have been using NE to look for all my parts, but somehow I couldn't find this in my memory searches. I see that they are all DDR2 and lower than the max speed for the MB I'm wanting to use. Is that gonna be much of a problem you reckon? Also, where can I go to see if any of this memory is compatible with my MB and CPU. Thanks again...Gum

MB=ASUS M4A79T Deluxe

CPU=AMD Phenom II X4 955

So far this is the closest I can get to what I'm looking for. http://www.crucial.com/store/parts [...] 1272BB1339 NE doesn't have DDR3 in individual 4MB chips, which is surprising, because they have everything else, lol.

honestly, i wouldn't worry about using 16GB of memory, i have 8GB and it's fine, for gaming 4GB of memory should be fine, just get 4GB (2x2GB) DD3 memory and when the 8GB sets (2x4GB) become popular and lower in price (i haven't even looked for 4GB/stick in DDR3 since i have a DDR2 board), then up to 12GB or if you are really advantageous replace the 4GB set you initially had

Unless your goal is also reducing the weight of your wallet significantly, as 4GB modules are still quite expensive(vide the crucial link provided above by gumerk)

Thx yall. Yeah, I think yall are right on the money with those suggestions. Why break the wallet now, when it will be more affordable down the road? There are plenty of very affordable 2x2, 4GB sets out there now. Kinda like the ole sayin, "My eyes were bigger than my stomach," lol. My eyes were bigger than my wallet hehe. One good thing with this Motherboard is later when I actually need 12GB of ram, I'll be able to use them then.

I didn't want to start a new thread about memory, so now that I have that part figured out, how can I find out the exact voltage, latency, and timing I need in memory for my motherboard. Furthermore, how can I know just what memory is compatible with my motherboard. Motherboard is gonna be ASUS M4A79T Deluxe AM3 DDR3, and CPU will be AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz. Thanks...Gum

Will this memory kit work? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820146777

You dont need to worry about motherboard regarding memory specs, but i wouldnt go with sticks that require more than 1.9v - thats coming from what ive seen in other peoples posts as im yet to use ddr3 myself, so anyone plz correct me if im wrong. As for compatibility. On asus website, search for your mobo and then look for its memory QVL, you will find memory kits that were tested with it, although pretty much any memory SHOULD work.

And you still chose pretty expensive kit :)

Any standard DDR3 module *should* work, although if you can get modules tested with the board, so much the better. Timings to run at should be listed with the RAM.
