I'm getting a new laptop but am not sure which is better
An Intel Duo Core Processor 2.66GHz
Or
An Intel QUAD Core Processor 2.0 GHz

Please help, it is most appreciated thanks :)

Honestly in a laptop... I would go for the dual core, it will consume less power and most people who use laptops will not run apps that tax a quad core.

Could you be more specific, CPU models... or do you have a specific laptop in mind?

In my opinion, if your not going to be gaming with the laptop since most people have desktops for then its not needs. The Core 2 Duo is plenty but it depends on what apps you run and if your playing games.

WOW! Thats a nice laptop. Dell also makes a gaming laptop that has SLI, I don't know if it can be purchased anymore tho. Not sure. Anyways these are the specs I found.

Core 2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHZ, 6MB L2 cache, 1066MHZ FSB
4GB DDR3 PC3-8500
500GB 5400RPM HDD
Blu-ray Drive
Nvidia 9700GT 512MB
Windows Vista 64BIT Edition
Digital Dolby Home Theatre.

That lappy will cost 1000+, is there a certain reason you don't want to go with a desktop? Unless you have a cooling pad that laptop will run hot when playing games. For that price you can build a nicer quad core gaming system? Or do you already have on? lol.

I have a cooling pad for my current laptop
and Well I like this one because its a very large screen with a great graphics card and everything I was just wondering about the quad or duo core's because the duo has .66 more GHz but I didn't know if a Quad core would make up for that. I don't want a desktop because sometimes I do like to take it with me when I go places.

Gaming and internet surfing mostly.
But high end games.
Also blue ray watching

I've used a high-end gaming laptop and hated it.

- Laptop screens have poorer viewing angles than desktop monitors.
- All high-end laptops have heat oozing up under your fingers even when doing basic tasks but get very warm
- Laptops can't come close to competing with a similarly priced desktop
- the 2.5" drive is much slower than a 3.5"

Anyway, depending on how much you spend on a really good laptop you can actual build a better desktop and have enough left over for a more modest laptop.

A friend of mine has this laptop and it is REALLY sweet for the price. It plays most anything you throw at it at a decent graphics level.

I'd go for higher clock in this case for games. Most games don't really benefit from 4 cores.

For gaming the 2.66 is faster. It depends on the game but in almost every case with, what games are currently out, you definitely want the higher frequency duo over the lower frequency quad. Go look at the bench marks for the e8400 and compare it to the q6600 or q9550 you will see the only CPU's that compete with the 3 ghz duos are 3ghz quads for 90% of games.

Funny because GTA IV, Sims 3, and Empire Earth 3 are my main games.
