I have an old tower whose either Mother board or cpu went bad. I need suggestions to upgrade and replace the motherboard and cpu.

My budget: ~ $150 - $200.

Current bad Motherboard = ASUS p5p800 - MX.
Intel FW82801EB SL73Z Chipset Part Number:FW82801EB

This is my first time messing with motherboards and I hope it will be a good learning experience.

I have 1gig DDR SDRAM, 120GB sata harddrive, optical drive, nvidia 7900GS GPU.

I am willing to upgrade the ram.

What I am looking for: To make this computer upto date with a good mother board, a dual core processor maybe and throw in the graphics card and eventually make it into a media center.

What I need from the community: Suggestions to replace my mobo, processor
and RAM.

Again, like mentioned, I am a noob and if I havent included any info or misnamed any info, I apologize.

TIA.

Never mind, I bought these:

- AMD Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition Kuma 2.8GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Dual-Core Processor Model AD785ZWCGHBOX
- ECS BLACK SERIES GF8200A (V1.0) AM2+/AM3 NVIDIA GeForce 8200 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
- OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2N800SR4GK

Heres to hoping all of those are compatible with each other.

you also have to ditch the 7900gs... it's agp... so for 200$ i think is unlikely to work for you. buy an intel E7400, any P45 board or G41 if you want to save on the vga for now and any renowned brand 2gb or 4gb ddr2 800, you might also want to trade the PSU and watch out for IDE/PATA drives you might have too. new boards only have one conector for 2 devices.

if your cpu is good dont exchang for now. but also check compatibility with new boards. what cpu do you have? P4 631 at 3.0? if you already have a pentium d like 920 dont exchange the cpu for now and invest in a graphics card. look at the ATI 4770 or 9800GTX although i would go for the 4770 and for 99$ it's as cheap as it get
