Started researching this build about a month ago. Its my first build. I'm posting it to get advice and suggestions. Please post anything you can tell me. No matter what level of expertise you currently hold.
I'm attaching prices to components and wouldn't mind any suggestions on those either. Please help if you can...I really dont want to foul this up or go low when i cld have gone high. Looking at a 1700 spending limit. Prices are all retrieved from Newegg and are rounded up to nearest dollar. Also added some alternates below the main build i might go w/ instead. Like the cooling on the IceQ4+ a ltl better and it looks nice.

Processor: Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 - $295

Motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - $285

PSU: hec Cougar 1000W Continuous @ 40°C ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V V2.91 - $170

Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Black Steel ATX Full Tower - $150

Memory: CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit - $165

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Green power 500Gb 5400-7200 RPM SATA 3.0gb - $60

Video: HIS Radeon HD 4870 1Gb - $260

Monitor: Asus VH226h 21.5" 2ms(GTG) HDMI LCD - $200

I also have a fan speed/ temp reader add-on which is about $50 from Aerocool. It stacks to about 1635 right now.

Alternate Video Card - HIS Radeon IceQ4+ Turbo w/ OC HD 4870 1Gb - $275

Alternate Motherboard - XFX LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - $290

Alternate Memory - Patriot Viper 6Gb (3 x 2Gb) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit - $163

Plz tell me what I should do if anybody can do better. I really need the help. I dont know product quality either. Mostly going off of what I've read. First hand exp wld be great.

Hey

I am actually getting a very similar PC for the smae price as yours, the cpu is great with it O/Cability it is able to beat the 965, regarding the motherboard its very solid but i've always had a softspot for EVGA Motherboards and the latest x58 is a beast so maybe consider that. About the power supply i think 1000w is a bit excessive even if ur considering crossfire in the future, a solid 900W or even a PCP&Cooling 850w should be sufficient for Crossfire.

I am in the middle of building almost the same. P6t deluxe, i7 920, Patriot 6gb, Haf 932, dvdrw, 2 seagate 1tb raid0, 2 4870x2 in xfire, enermax 1kw. Water cooling by danger den. Big radiator, big eheim pump, both cards and cpu cooled...and with that case its got the fans. Radiator has 4 fans and half inch lines. Win xp..no vista. Sounds like you will have a great system. Case is an easy build..you will like it.
Pump is 120v unit. Water cooling will add about 500. I may add another optical drive so I can copy a few things. Everything is sata.
The two cards will run tooo hot on air so that is why the water. I have done two other systems with water. Any questions ??? Make sure the memory is certified by Asus and Intel to run on that board. Do not raise the memory voltage beyond 1.65volts. Its easy to route all the cables and wires behind the mother board...makes it nice and neat.
