External Hard Drive data transfer.

I just built a new PC and I have a 500gb external hard drive that I've been using with the Mac that I owned previously. I was wondering if there was a way to transfer my data or get that drive to work with my PC, because when I plug the HD into my PC's USB port nothing happens. It shows up that I can safely eject the drive, but that's it. Is there a way to do this, I would like to avoid transferring 450gb of data with a thumb drive.

Thank you for your time.

  1. If you have data that worked with a Mac, then surely its impossible for it to be compatible with a PC... Is it not? Other then that, sorry, no help from this side. When I had to back up my old 80GB IDE drive, I used a bunch of blank DVD's. Most of the drive was installed software and the O.S itself so all I really needed to back-up was the files which came to around 40GB's and was done with 10 burns.
