Well, during gaming the backplate gets very hot, this backplate is to help spread out the heat on the memory chips, correct ? here is a pic of the 4870X2 with the backplate removed http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cI [...] ageID=5789
Now, would it be possible to remove that backplate ? would I see lower temps ? Or higher ones because there is nothing to dissapate the heat ? My memory has been getting up to 112C lately which makes me uncomfortable.
To put the memory heatsinks on you would have to remove the casing, which would leave you without a fan. Your best bet is to wait a couple of weeks until Arctic Cooling release their aftermarket cooler for the 4870x2, I know I will!
Wow, nice link, 6 year warranty....50C cooler than stock, 8 Heat pipes ? yes please! wow this thing looks so great, I just wish it came out a little sooner, end of march cant come fast enough.
