I know this will make me sound dim, but... what actually happens when you
run the upgrade patch?
My son put it on a CD for me and I only just remebered I had not run it
since my last install.
Right...

Insert CD. Hit the .exe file that appeared. Asks for disc 4. No apparent
hard drive activity noticed.
Change disks. Hit okay.
A meter appears, the line zooms past and then window appears showing
contents of Disc 4, and that is all.

No confirmation, or anything.
Is there any thing I can check to find out if the patch has indeed
installed? it's all over so quickly. Seconds.

And I suppose everyone has seen that fat little Cupid on a plinth in the
main Sim2 site? It's so horrible I have to have it.

When I tried reinstalling the patch I was told it had already been put in.

Try running it again?

I had the same thing, and when I tried to install it again thinking there
may have been an error I got a message saying it was already installed.
Kinda odd no confirmation, eh?

Yet again, a kindly soul, no doubt not wishing to make look absolutely daft
in public, has asked 'have you been running the update from the CD, or did
you save it to your hard drive, first?'

Ho-hum!!!! I saved it and ran it and it acted completely differently this
time, unlocking all sorts of files that what like I have never seen before
and it took longer than about three seconds as well - and told me it had
been successful.

I think I will just go away and take up crochet.
