This isn't for your opinion on which is best, just to see which platform you currently own. I got curious on whether there are more AMD or Intel platforms out there.

AMD 1 Ghz. Not upgrading until I can get something at 4 Ghz or equivalent.

You know what's funny? Many of the "comp geeks" in fact end up having slower comps that the slightly into comp people or just people w/ an inferiority complex cause they MUST have a 3.06Ghz P4 with an FX5900, etc. I'd say over the past 2 months, one of my friends has spent like 5 grand on his comp cause he went from P41.8Ghz-> P4 2.4Ghz-> P4 3.06Ghz, and GeForce 3-> GF4 Ti4200->GF4Ti4400-> GF4Ti4800SE-> R9800!!

Hilbert space is a big place.

What a waste of money! And I'm living with a 1 GHz Duron and Radeon 9000 (non-Pro)

Personally I don't think a 1 Ghz rig is slow. My videocard is slow though, but I'm putting up with it since I really want to run Doom III and HL2 at full throttle. I figure I'll be upgrading by New Year.

Sure, we have 3.2 Ghz machines on the market. The difference from a Ghz though isn't as extreme as the jumps I did from 8 Mhz to 25 Mhz to 400 Mhz to 1 Ghz. Those jumps were HUGE! I expect a jump to 4 Ghz will at least be noticable enough to make the purchase worth it.

Granted, prices are dirt cheap right now for AMD processors. Upgrading wouldn't really be too much of a problem.

I'm running an XP2200 and R8500Pro. The vid card was upgraded before the mobo/cpu/ram (used to have a Celly 466), although the RAM burned me 'cos I bought generic and screwed with my system. Run Crucial now.

No point upgrading any further until something completely eath shattering comes out. My setup plays games just fine, runs all the apps I need good too. Can't afford to mind, 'cos we're moving house.

AMD XP1600+ at XP2100+ speed with 333MHz FSB and planning to increase to even higher levels.

I don't plan to upgrade CPU/mobo untill the Athlon 64 is out for some months. But I might do a videocard upgrade the comming months... my second PC now has a GeForce2MX which is getting kinda slow, so if I just put my Ti4200 in that one and buy a new one myselve I'm alright for atleast another year.

My CPU fan spins so fast that it creates a wormhole

Why you have to buy a new board? Doesn't your board suport 133 MHz FSB AXP's?

Sure,1 GHz is still good for gaming, but when you encode video or comress huge ammount of file using WinRAR, then you always feel the need for more speed.

No, it only supports a 100MHz FSB (due to the board version), so the max I could hope for is an Athlon 1.4 with a 200MHz FSB. Also, it used PC133 SDRAM, so if I'm upgrading I'd need a new motherboard, RAM and CPU. That's a fairly big financial hit, especially in Ireland.

I am preparing for the day though, just bought an Enermax 460W Silent Plus PSU, which I'd need to do any type of upgrade. My old PSU was only 250W and played hell with my 9700.

 My PC is so wonderful it makes Svol seem less than perfect

That's a mighty fine PSU you have there. I have an Enermax in mine after doing a deal with the brother in law when I built his rig. He got my Antec 430 Truepower for zero, I got a rather fine Enermax 460w Active PFC Switching power supply.

I can't believe I just mistakenly biased the poll, putting Intel as a vote, by error. I have an AMD, so when you look at the poll results, scratch one Intel OFF.

Started with a 486sx 66Mhz
Upgraded that system to a Pentium 133MHz
Then I got Delled with a Celeron 500/66 with I810E chipset.
Upgraded that to a PentiumIII 750/100
Sold that.
Built my own system next. It was a PentiumIII 866/133 using the I815E chipset.
Sold that.
Built a P4 1.6/400/256K using the 845 SDRAM chipset.
Sold that.
Built a P4 1.6A/400/512K using the 850E chipset with PC800/45.
Sold that.
Built a P4 2.40B/533/512K using the 850E chipset (New Mobo) with PC1066/35
Sold that.
My current system is a P4 3.06HT/533/512K using the 850E chipset with PC1066/32.
Hyper Threading kicks ass. The stock cpu heatsink fan is very loud but it keeps the cpu cool. The highest temp at max load has been 47C with the room temp at 25C. Average cpu and system temp has been 37C.

I started out with Windows 3.1.
Then to Win95B. Office 97 Illegal copy.
Then to Win98se. And MS Works Suite 2000
Then to WinME. And MS Works Suite 2000
Then to WinXP Home. And Office 2000 Illegal Copy.
Now I use WinXP Pro. And Office XP Students and Teachers Edition.

I have also had two Dell Inspiron Notebooks.
The first one was an Inspiron 4000 with a Celeron 700/100 using WinME and Works Suite 2000.
My current Notebook is an Inspiron 8100 with a PIII 1.13/133 using WinXP Pro and MS Office Small Business Edition.

I have a serious problem. I spend way too much money on computer stuff. I need rehab!!!
