Those temps sound really high to me. What is your room temp?

Well... I've built a Core2Duo E7400 (No OC) system probably about 3 weeks ago now. I was getting those sort of temps with the Intel stock HSF. So I swapped in an Akasa AK-955, taking the temps down to about 37-38C with one core fully maxed out. I used Akasa silver-oxide paste to mount it and everything is working a treat. I don't have air-con in this room and have two other machines that run 24/7. I can provide the specs for the AK-955 below...

Edit:: The only difference between the one I brought and the one pictured in the link above was the lack of thermal interface material, hence the use of the Akasa silver-oxide paste.

When I was watching vids on how to apply thermal paste when I ws a newbie, I was told to apply two thin small lines on each side, because of the cores. I don't know if this works tho?

No thermal paste is going to help that, it is more likely the heat sink is bady seated.

Is the heat sensor right?

Are you measuring in Celsius or Fahrenheit?

The temps. are ok if its slightly OCed on stock HSF. No OC on a V8? You didn't install the HSF properly or not enough/too much paste.
