MOniter resolution problems

Ive recently bought a new moniter - identical to my old one, 22 inch samsung 2243NWX, to run them in dual mode....
I am running an 8800gtx, and the problem is that the primary moniter allows me to run it in 1650x.. but the secondary moniter only allows 1240x...
I have updated drivers, yadayadayada but no change.
The moniter is fine - if i make it the primary, it lets me put it up to 1650, but then automatically puts the other one that was primary before, down to 1240x..
Could somebody help me please? i have searched everywhere but cant find an answer

maybe your 8800gtx cant handle 2 monitors at high resolution.

Should be able to, my mates 6600 handles 2 at 1650, and those are ancient
