Memory Cap

Hello, I have Windows XP Professional 32 bit service pack 3 and had heard there is a maximum amount of memory the OS will recognize. As such I currently have 3 GB of Ram and was looking at upgrading my video card and was wondering if the video memory is counted as part of this 4 GB memory cap I have heard about in 32 bit OS's. Thanks.

There was a time when XP would only "see" 3.5Gb even if for was present but I believe that was fixed a couple of years back. Generally, the graphics only takes RAM from the system if the card doesn't come complete with its own but I believe some cards use their own RAM and some of Windows It's also important to remember that RAM is only part of the issue - the main one is how its utilised. Letting the system manage memory used to be viewed by experienced users as a sign of weakness but its all right to do it these days.
