We are happy with direct tv, and have signals in the 90's, but DO notice
that in some scenes, especially those with fast moving backgrounds, as
in someone flying through the air, that the scene pixelates (breaks to
less detailed blocks of color) for a second or 2- is this a result of
too much compression -not keeping up with the data, or is there a
problem with our receivers?

Not your equipment!!! The compression, conversion and loss of data.
Remember that they squeeze 10 chs or more into one transponder {the
space that 1 HD ch takes up}.
