New Partition and New Simple Volume

Hello,
Is New Partition and New Simple Volume the same? I am trying to format my 2nd hard drive. I have windows 7

I don't think so.

First you partition the drive, as one big one.

Then you set that partition as active, and format it.

So, maybe there are the same. Simple Volume might mean one partition.

Sorry, I'm not on my Win7 machine right now
